dd05Funny story -Dirty Dancing was one of my absolute favorite movies as a kid.  My grandma and I would watch this movie over and over again and it actually took me years to realize that I was clueless about like 80% of the plot.  I didn’t know what “knocked up” meant back then and for the life of me, could not understand why the dad was so mad at poor Johnny.  lol.  Nonetheless, when I heard about Dirty Dancing coming to the stage in Atlanta, there was no way I could miss it!

And I’m so glad I didn’t miss it…

dd01First of all, what a performance!  High energy, heart-pounding music, and sensational dancing!  I found myself just as mesmerized by the racy dance moves as I was watching it as a kid and could barely keep myself seated!  It was truly a great experience to see it all go down live on stage.

Admittedly, the transformation from the big screen to the stage could have been a little smoother.  Some of the set transitions were a little strange – almost comedic and it was a little hard to capture some of the more dramatic moments as you see them on the screen.  Samuel Pergande who played Johnny had some really big shoes to fill since there can only be one Patrick Swayze, but he did a good job of making the character his own.  Jillian Mueller as Baby was a favorite of mine.

Dirty Dancing will be at the Fox Theater through Nov. 30th and since it’s also Thanksgiving week, they’ll be hosting a holiday canned food drive.  All week long, patrons can donate non-perishable items that will help The Salvation Army to serve Atlanta-area families during the upcoming holiday season.  On Thanksgiving only, guests who donate three or more items can take advantage of a $20 discount (dress circle only) for that evening’s performance.

The $20 discount on dress circle tickets will be available only for the 7:30 p.m. performance on Thursday, November 27, and guests must donate three or more non-perishable food items in order to receive the discount. The offer is available beginning at 5 p.m. for walk up purchases at the Fox Theatre box office on Thanksgiving day. There is a six ticket maximum per person on discounted tickets, and three donation items are required for each discount. The canned food drive will continue throughout the weekend through the final “Dirty Dancing” performance on Sunday, November 30 at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets start at $33 and are available at by visiting foxtheatre.org/dirtydancing, calling 1-855-285-8499 or visiting the Fox Theatre Box Office (660 Peachtree St NE,DD07 Atlanta, GA 30308). Group orders of 10 or more may by placed by calling404-881-2000.

The staged musical of this worldwide smash-hit film will play the Fox Theatre November 25-30, with a special performance at 7:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving. The performance schedule is:

Tuesday-Thursday           7:30 p.m.

Friday                                    8 p.m.

Saturday                              2 p.m.8 p.m.

Sunday                                 1 p.m.6:30 p.m.
